Adult family home questions and answers

Straight answers to the questions families ask us most. If yours is not here, call us at 360-910-0631.

What is an adult family home?

An adult family home is a regular house in a residential neighborhood where a licensed provider cares for a small number of adults. Washington's Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) licenses and inspects these homes. Fairway Home Care is licensed for up to six residents, so care is personal and the setting feels like a home, not a facility.

Is an adult family home the same as an adult foster home?

They are very similar. "Adult foster home" is the term used in Oregon. In Washington the licensed term is "adult family home." If you live in Portland and are searching across the river, Fairway Home Care is a Washington adult family home in Vancouver.

How many residents live at Fairway Home Care?

We are licensed for a maximum of six residents. Small size means caregivers know each resident's routines, preferences and health needs well.

Do residents have private rooms?

Yes. Private rooms are available. Call us to ask about current openings.

Is care available 24 hours a day?

Yes. Caregivers are in the home around the clock, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Do you care for people with dementia or memory loss?

Yes. We provide dementia and mental health care. During your first call we will talk through your loved one's needs so you can decide together whether our home is the right fit.

What languages do you speak?

Our family speaks English, Romanian and Russian, which many families in Clark County appreciate.

How do families pay for care?

Most families pay privately, sometimes with help from long-term care insurance or veterans benefits. Washington Medicaid long-term care programs can also cover adult family home care for people who qualify. Call us to discuss rates and payment options for your situation.

How can I verify your license?

You can look up any Washington adult family home, including inspection reports, on the DSHS Adult Family Home Locator. Our license number is 754540.

Do you offer a move-in special?
